INEOS Automotive has introduced the Grenadier Commercial in the UK, a modified 4X4 that allows owners to recover VAT and enjoy reduced benefit in kind (BIK) tax rates. We previewed the Grenadier when news broke previously on this and has proven to be a popular buy amongst the Defender die-hards. Well designed, thought out and not just stripped out ‘to be functional’ but actually comfort too.
The new Grenadier Commercial is replacing the previous two-seat Utility Wagon in the model line-up. Designed for professional use, it boasts a full-length flat floor and sturdy cargo barrier separating the two front seats. It is capable of carrying a standard 1,200mm x 800mm Euro pallet. Additionally, the vehicle has a braked 3.5-tonne towing capacity, over 2,000 litres of load space, and a powerful 5.5-tonne winch for self-recovery or assisting other vehicles.
The distinguishing characteristics of the Grenadier Commercial, which make it eligible for VAT exemption, include the replacement of rear passenger windows with aluminium panels, blacked out glazing on the 30:70 split rear doors, and permanently disabled chassis mounting points to prevent the addition of a second row of seats.
In his statement, George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director at INEOS Automotive, acknowledges that there has been demand from UK customers for this addition to our model line-up ever since its launch in 2022. As a result, we are delighted to offer it promptly. He also highlights that the adaptability of the Grenadier platform allows us to make these modifications without sacrificing driving performance or off-road capabilities.
With a blend of tough British flair and precision German construction, the INEOS Grenadier is the perfect partner for those seeking a reliable vehicle that also offers luxurious amenities. Its foundation consists of a sturdy ladder frame chassis, coupled with rugged solid beam axles, a two-speed transfer case, and the option for three locking differentials. Under the hood lies a specially tuned BMW 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine, available in either gasoline or diesel for optimal performance.
The Grenadier Commercial will be constructed at the Hambach manufacturing plant in France, which was acquired by INEOS Automotive from Mercedes-Benz in January 2021. The conversion process will be carried out by EDC Limited, a team of engineering experts based in Pontypool, UK.
The Grenadier’s body-on-frame construction offers extensive customisation options, particularly in the five-seat double cab Chassis variant. This version, called the Grenadier Quartermaster pick-up, is designed for use by specialist vehicle converters and commercial body builders worldwide and production is set to begin this month.
